The web design has escalated its trend, it is now introducing the use of bright colors, minimalistic designs, and a bold typography. Web developers along with the graphic designers have implemented this flat design.

Flat designs have given the emphasis on its usability, clean interface, and open space, thus, giving a unique face and a personalized brand logos. Flat design concepts stand out than other trending design concepts, although not all of the web designers and graphic designer use their basic design principles, it still needs a basic understanding of its concept. When you understand the basic concept, you can utilize and take advantage of it to its full potential.

Lack of depth

The drop shadows, bevels, strokes, gradients are now out of the concept to create a realistic world shape. Before, web designers aim to copy real looking objects by adding colors and textures to its depth. However, in today’s concept, flat designs work toward simpler visual effect that makes it appear to look flat.

Minimalistic design

Flat designs emphasize minimal, simple, and clean layouts. Gone is the concept of using skeuomorphic designs that utilizes 3D effects, flashy embellishments, and animations. Flat designs give an impressive appearance of a UI design, it uses simple lines and vibrant color palettes. Web designers and graphic designers who use the concept of flat design can create depth, movement, and an impressive visual appeal through bright colors and simple line structures.


We all know flat designs lack the strong components of a skeuomorphic concept. However, this gives more space to add a bold typography which can enhance the overall appearance of the web.

To bring visual excitement to the audience, make sure that the typography you choose goes along with the flat design. You do not need an overwhelming effect, you minimalistic design and content can catch the attention of the audience.

Visual Hierarchy

Flat designs utilize 8 colors in one image. It is said that the composition, color, elements, and images can tell something at the first glance of the audience.

As material design displays its elements in 2D, bold color schemes in dark and light variations, contrasting sizes and styles, and muted background environments are utilized to distinguish UI elements from one another.

In order to ensure that the visual hierarchy you used has functional usability, make sure that the elements are visible and clear; there are a sufficient contrast and color; and easy navigation through the website by the motion, shape, text, and color being reinforced.

Simple Elements

Buttons and icons are some of the simple interface being implemented with flat design. It maintains the flat concept and 2D design to create depth and movement through simple shapes. These simple shapes can make it easier to stand alone or be combined with another element. It can interact with the audience with a simple click or tap without distracting them.

Flat design is not implemented to impress the audience with its color combinations, bold typography, and simple shapes but it focuses more on the functional usability of the concept.
